Role Summary: The Lead Engine Controls Engineer will lead the development of reciprocating engine control systems and features and demonstrate leadership in business programs and processes. You will utilize expertise in leading teams to define control requirements, design concepts and solutions, perform calibration and validation, troubleshoot issues, and support problem resolution. You will set, communicate, and execute objectives for self and others, and be empowered to impact business outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities: Essential responsibilities include:
  • Developing state-of-the-art engine control system architectures
  • Developing and enhancing engine control strategies including closed-loop regulation and model-based controls
  • Developing and defining engine control feature/diagnostics requirements
  • Prototyping new engine control concepts/enhancements through modeling and simulation
  • Leading diagnostics development including strategy development, modeling and simulation
  • Leading feature calibration and validation efforts in the engine test cell and in the field
  • Leading integration and coordination of engine control strategy with engine and other vehicle subsystems
  • Developing feature and system test procedures to ensure performance meets requirements
  • Diagnosing and resolving engine controls issues by leading test cell and locomotive data collection and root cause analysis
Key competencies include:
  • Developing MATLAB scripts and SIMULINK models
  • Developing, enhancing and documenting DFMEA
  • Leading cross-functional teams to define and implement control strategy enhancements
  • Leading the design, analysis, and execution of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements
  • Providing technical guidance to team members assigned to the project as well as becoming technically engaged with other functional groups to maintain efficient project execution
  • Providing timely communications to key stakeholders on progress, issues, or constraints which impact schedule, costs, scope of work, and/or resources
  • Recording and reporting technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Participating as a presenter in technical and program reviews
  • Ensuring proper documentation of technical content is generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks are consistent with engineering policies and procedures
